Hallo,
Welcome to Switzhouse, or as we say in German, “Schwitzhaus”!
The German word “schwitzen” refers to sweating and detoxing, and the word “Haus” means house, which is very similar to the English version.
My name is Ruth Mueller, and I was born and raised in Germany for the first 29 years of my life.
My husband and I came to the States in 1997, and we are proud to have become U.S. citizens.
Growing up in Germany, my family went to sauna therapy every single week. Sauna therapy originated in Norway, where citizens are very aware of the many benefits sauna therapy and cold plunge—hot and ice—have on our bodies. Pretty much every house has a built-in sauna, often located in the backyard as well. Sauna therapy and cold plunges are becoming more recognized and established in the States as well.
While the hot temperature raises our core body temperature, causing us to sweat out impurities, the cold plunge does the opposite; it decreases body temperature. The increase in temperature leads to vasodilation, and improved blood circulation brings more oxygen, nutrients, and minerals to every living cell. Vasodilation opens up pores, allowing waste products to be released.
In addition to detoxing, increased temperature also promotes weight loss. The body has to work harder to stabilize the higher temperature and cool down by releasing body fluids through sweating, which increases calorie usage. This is also true for the cold plunge. The cold plunge, which is about 48-50 degrees, causes the body to use extra calories to maintain core temperature.
Cold plunges are known to be highly beneficial for reducing inflammation. We all have some degree of inflammation in our bodies—some more than others, of course. Certain foods, food allergies, intolerances, alcohol, sweets, and sedentary lifestyles all contribute to inflammation. Cold plunges can certainly help reduce inflammation. Athletes and those who work out regularly often experience soreness and small soft tissue injuries. Cold plunges are excellent for helping to recover exhausted muscles and heal small injuries like microtears in tendons and ligaments.
In addition to the physical benefits of sauna and cold plunge therapy, there are well-known studies showing benefits for hormonal and emotional well-being. Regular use of these therapies decreases cortisol production, to name just one benefit. We live in stressful times, often resulting in elevated cortisol levels. Increased blood circulation, like that provided by sauna therapy and massage therapy, helps regulate cortisol levels. Many people feel a sense of well-being and relaxation after these therapies. People who experience anxiety or worry a lot are ideal candidates for the therapies mentioned above.
Our newest addition is the salt booth. Salt therapy is well known for its pulmonary benefits, particularly for the lungs. It also enhances overall immune function because the micro salt particles we inhale and absorb through the skin are antiviral and antibacterial. This means that anyone with environmental issues like allergies, bronchitis, asthma, or pneumonia will benefit from this therapy. Salt therapy helps to lessen acute symptoms and strengthens overall immunity to fight viruses and bacteria.
Our hope and dream is to provide a wellness studio that helps people live fuller, richer, healthier, and more joyful lives!
Thanks for trusting us to be a part of your health and wellness!!!!
